Our Story

How we started

Cedar & Salt opened in a former net-mending shed on the Port Elm harborwalk in 2014. Two line cooks who had grown up on this stretch of coast wanted a room where the fish came off the boat and onto the fire the same day, and where a weeknight dinner did not need an occasion.

The people

The kitchen is led by our founding chefs, with a small crew that has cooked together for the better part of a decade. Most of our produce comes from three farms within twenty miles, and the boats tie up close enough that the day's list is genuinely the day's list.

The room

Forty seats in the dining room, ten at the bar, and a back room for private dinners. We kept the shed's original beams and added not much else. If you are celebrating something, tell us when you book and we will make a little space for it.
